Alexis C. Verros Wright

Alexis C. Verros Wright, 76, of Great Valley, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday afternoon, September 4, 2026 at Olean General Hospital following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Born March 26, 1950, in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Chris A. and Crissi L. Danas Verros. She was married to Jim Wright, who predeceased her in 2007.

She was a proud graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1968.

Throughout her professional career, Alexis held various positions that allowed her to engage with the local and visiting crowd in Ellicottville, NY. She was well known as the longtime hostess and manager of the former Barn Restaurant and as a bartender at Holiday Valley, where she had a significant following while tending bar at the Yodeler Lodge. More recently, she worked in the retail shop at Allegany State Park, where she enjoyed greeting thousands of guests each season.

Alexis had an unwavering and unconditional love of pets. Over the years she opened her doors to rescue, nurture, feed, and become home to a wide variety of dogs and cats. No animal was left behind and she always seemed to find a way to make them all get along…

She had many hidden talents. Among them were gardening, making candy/flower bouquets, constructing infamous Buffalo Bills Gnomes, creating amazing oil paintings of whatever interested her, designing her own greeting cards, and sharing her amazing baklava with her family and friends. She was very much an avid Buffalo Bills supporter!

Alexis was a member of the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Salamanca, NY, prior to its closing. Formerly, she was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Jamestown, NY.

Alexis leaves behind her sister, Terri (Joe) Porter, Jamison, PA; her brother, Chris (Maureen) Verros, Mansfield, MA; two nieces, Krystin Porter Conlan and Ashley Porter Shaw; two nephews, Christopher and Cameron Verros; her grandnephews, Cole and Drew Conlan and Jacob Shaw; and her grandniece, Ella Shaw; her loving companion, Joe Wolford; and her little buddy terrier, Charlie, who went with her everywhere.

Friends may call at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6360 Route 242, Ellicottville, NY on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 10 – 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Michael Lonto officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River St. Salamanca, NY.

A private burial will take place in Wildwood Cemetery in Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Susan G Komen Foundation (Komen.org) for breast cancer research.
